Steelwork is shaping the UK energy sector

Posted on by in News

Midlands-based Adey Steel has recently completed a number of energy projects, providing its in-house structural design, 3D detailing, advanced fabrication, and project management expertise to this important and expanding sector.

Working with Swithland Power, the company has fabricated and delivered a 15m-high x 20m-long gantry to support high-voltage transmission equipment at the Tilbury Substation in Essex (pictured).

In order to ensure accurate assembly, a streamlined installation and long-term reliability, the gantry was trial erected at the fabrication yard, prior to arriving on site.

In a similar contract, four 15m-high x 22m-long gantries have been supplied to the National Grid’s Wessex Downs project in Wiltshire.

Helping supply the biomass sector, where electricity is generated by burning organic materials such as woodchip, Adey Steel has fabricated a number of biomass tube feeders that are designed to transfer high volumes of materials from storage silos.

Up to 11m-high, each feeder incorporates independently rotating elements that extract and transfer fuel efficiently, while the application of robust protective coatings ensure their durability in challenging operational environments.

At Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset, a quantity of heavy-duty transport beams has been delivered. The beams are essential for construction and logistical operations on this landmark project.
