Steelwork installed for £350 million cable factory
British Steel has supplied over 2,000t of structural steelwork for the construction of Sumitomo Electric’s high voltage cable factory at the Port of Nigg, near Invergordon.
The state-of-the-art subsea power cable manufacturing facility consists of four steel-framed buildings, which have been erected by steelwork contractor BHC.
As well as fabricating and installing the project’s steelwork, BHC was responsible for the metal decking and cladding packages.
Phil Knowles, British Steel Commercial Director for Construction, said: “We’re excited to have supplied our sections for this major project through BHC.
“We are proud to support UK manufacturing and industry, and to work with our partners to demonstrate the importance of British steel in developments like this.”
Once complete in 2026, the Sumitomo facility will create around 300 jobs and supply cables for offshore wind farms.
