Steelwork contract awarded for UK’s biggest car battery factory

Severfield will fabricate, supply and erect approximately 20,000t of structural steelwork for the Agratas battery facility, near Bridgwater in Somerset.

On completion, the state-of-the-art factory will be the largest electric car battery manufacturing facility in UK, covering an area 35% larger than Wembley Stadium.

By the early 2030s, it will contribute almost half of the projected battery manufacturing capacity required for the UK automotive sector.

Working on behalf of main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine, steelwork installation will begin in the coming months following the completion of the site’s piling programme.
