Steel up for Workington Innovation Centre
Morgan Sindall’s North East and Cumbria team has celebrated the completion of the steel frame at the Workington Innovation Centre with a beam signing ceremony.
Once complete, the building, which was procured through the SCAPE Construction Framework, will provide purpose-built office accommodation for local companies, including digital technology and advanced manufacturing businesses.
Significant steps have been taken to minimise the building’s carbon footprint.
The majority of the steel frame – fabricated, supplied and installed by Leach Structural Steelwork – was produced using an electric arc furnace, resulting in an estimated carbon saving of 159 tonnes of CO2e.
Leader of Cumberland Council, Councillor Mark Fryer, said: “Work is progressing well and the project has hit another important milestone.
“The building will provide entrepreneurial support and high-quality office accommodation in Workington, as well as increasing footfall in the town centre, all of which is great news for the local economy.”
