Norfolk-based steel contractor completes equipment upgrade

Posted on by in News

Steelwork contractor H Young Structures has completed the installation of three new Voortman machines, alongside associated buffers and transfers, at its Wymondham fabrication shop.

As part of a major fabrication upgrade, the company has installed a VSB1500-4 shot blasting machine and a VB1050 bandsaw, with the latter positioned back-to-back with a V631/1050M drilling and milling unit.

The Voortman VSB range of automatic shot blasting machines are said to be designed using the highest quality components for an optimal finished steel surface.

As well as having automatic infeed and batching, which means an operator does not need to intervene with the spacing of profiles, the grit is removed after shot blasting by a brush automatically positioned to the correct height above the material.

Placing the bandsaw back-to-back with the drilling and milling unit provides many advantages such as the need for less floor space, increased productivity, more efficiency and better accuracy.

Barry Tipple, H Young Structures Commercial Director, said: “This upgrade represents a significant step forward as it brings our workshop up to date, reduces manual handling, and streamlines our workflow to make it smoother, faster, and more efficient. It also enables us to produce more work in-house for our customers.”
