New surgical centre for Guy’s Hospital

McLaughlin & Harvey has been appointed as main contractor for a new surgical centre at the Guys and St Thomas’ hospital site in south London.

The eight-storey centre will be dedicated to non-emergency surgery and include six operating theatres, 17 recovery rooms, and a discharge lounge.

Paul Griffen, Managing Director of McLaughlin & Harvey, said: “With a history of delivering sustainable and considerate healthcare facilities across the UK that enhance the experience for patients and staff, we are well positioned to deliver this project for Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.”

According to the NHS Foundation, the new surgical centre will help reduce waiting times for patients at a time of rising demand for complex and specialist planned surgery, from a growing and ageing population in south east London and beyond.

Building work is expected to begin next year with completion set for the end of 2028.
