January issue of New Steel Construction out now
The first New Steel Construction (NSC) issue of 2025 is now available. It is the first of our digital-only issues, as NSC will now be available in this format six times a year, with four printed issues being produced in March, June, September and November/December. Readers can access the magazine at: www.newsteelconstruction.com
This issue’s cover story features Harcourt Square, a prestigious commercial scheme in Dublin. Structural steelwork has been chosen for a number of reasons, including the ease with which the material allows the design to blend into the existing Georgian streetscape.
Meanwhile in London, another commercial scheme will provide a significant boost to the eastern end of Oxford Street. Known as The Ribbon, the 10-storey block has 40% more floor space than the previous 1960s office building.
In Yorkshire, the Leeds City Academy is expanding its premises with a teaching block extension and an enlarged dining hall. The fact that steelwork is prefabricated offsite, has meant there have been fewer deliveries than other framing solutions would require, which has been important as the works are being undertaken within a ‘live’ school.
The affordable housing market in Ipswich is getting a boost, with the construction of the Orwell Centre. Located in the town centre, the steel-framed project tops out at six-storeys and consists of 30 one and two bedroom flats.
Spanning the A249 near Sittingbourne in north Kent, a single-span steel bridge forms an important element in the Grovehurst Road Interchange Improvement Scheme. Allowing better vehicle access, the project is vital in the local authority’s plans to build more than 15,000 homes before 2040.
NSC also features industry news, a technical article and an advisory desk note from the Steel Construction Institute, and codes and standards updates.
