February issue of New Steel Construction out now
The February issue of New Steel Construction (NSC) is now available in both digital and print formats that will be arriving in the post this week.
Anyone who does not receive the print magazine and would like a free subscription (UK and Ireland only) should visit www.steelconstruction.info while readers who prefer the digital offering of NSC can find it at www.newsteelconstruction.com
This month’s lead news story reports that steelwork has further strengthened its overall structural frames market share. In the key multi-storey non-domestic sector, steelwork’s share for 2021 was 65.5%, up from 64.7% in 2020.
NSC reports on two commercial schemes close to central London’s Victoria Station. At 123 & 151 Buckingham Palace Road, a pair of existing steel-framed buildings that span some of the station’s railway lines, are both being enlarged with new steel-framed floors.
Opposite Victoria Station, the mixed-use Nova development’s second phase consists of a 17-storey commercial building. The structure is designed around a series of trusses, which transfer loads to the limited number of piles that could be installed around numerous underground assets.
The film and television studio sector is buoyant and NSC has two examples in this issue. Glasgow’s landmark Kelvin Hall is continuing to be redeveloped with the latest phase consisting of a steel-framed film and broadcast hub to be operated by the BBC.
While in Liverpool, which is said to be one of the UK’s favourite film locations, two purpose-built studios, known as The Depot, have recently been completed.
Structural steelwork dominates the single storey non-domestic market for industrial-type buildings with a 93.3% share in 2021. Highlighting this market, NSC reports on the fifth and final distribution centre to be built at ICON Harlow.
NSC also features industry news, a technical article and advisory desk from the Steel Construction Institute, and codes and standards updates.
