February issue of New Steel Construction out now
The February issue of New Steel Construction (NSC) is now available. It is the second of our digital-only issues, as NSC will now be available in this format six times a year, with four printed issues being produced in March, June, September and November/December. Readers can access the magazine at www.newsteelconstruction.com
This issue’s cover story features 2 Aldermanbury Square, a 13-storey commercial scheme in the City of London. With sustainability at the heart of its design, the steel frame contains reused steelwork and material sourced from electric arc furnace production facilities.
In Northern Ireland, NSC reports on two school projects, starting with the Ballycastle Shared Education Centre. Replacing two existing schools, the project’s designers have chosen a steel frame supporting precast floors as the most cost-effective solution.
In the village of Carrowdore, near Newtownards, the new Strangford Integrated College is being built on land adjacent to the existing school. With nearby pupils and staff in mind, steelwork has been chosen for this scheme as it creates a programme with minimal disruption and noise.
Aiming to position itself at the forefront of digital teaching and learning, Teesside University is in the midst of a large-scale redevelopment, which includes the construction of a £40 million Digital Life building.
Forming part of Radcliffe’s multi-million-pound regeneration scheme, a new Civic Hub, containing a swimming pool, sport and leisure spaces and a library, will help reinvigorate the town centre.
NSC also features industry news, a technical article and an advisory desk note from the Steel Construction Institute, and codes and standards updates.
