Devon’s newest railway station set to arrive

Posted on by in News

Okehampton Interchange station is a step closer to welcoming passengers after steel structures, consisting of a 26.5m-long footbridge, a lift shaft and stair units, were installed during three consecutive night time rail possessions.

Using a 350t-capacity crane, the bridge’s main span was lifted into place in two sections. The completed structure will provide access from the 200-space car park to the new station’s single platform.

Working on behalf of Network Rail’s main contractor Octavius Infrastructure, Adey Steel fabricated and supplied the steel elements for the project.

“This project highlights the strength of collaboration, precision engineering, the benefits of offsite fabrication and expert project management across all teams involved,” said Andrew Adey, Managing Director at Adey Steel.

The newest addition to the Dartmoor Line, the station is set to open in Summer 2026. It will complement the existing Okehampton station, providing an hourly train service connecting West Devon, Torridge and North Cornwall with Exeter and beyond.
