Contracts signed for British Library extension

Mace has been appointed as construction manager for the £1.1bn British Library extension scheme.

Working with development manager Stanhope, the company will oversee a significant enlargement of the St Pancras site, with 9,290m2 of exhibition galleries, event spaces and learning facilities.

The scheme will also include commercial spaces and numerous circulation areas to connect the new areas to the existing library building.

Mace Group Chief Executive Jason Millett said: “We are delighted to be selected as Construction Manager for the British Library development. This is a high-profile project with international significance. Our long-established expertise and track record in delivering other major schemes makes us well placed for this role.”

Due to take around six years to complete, work will start in 2026.
