Contractor appointed for University of Salford health building

Posted on by in Weekly News

Kier has been appointed to deliver a new £40.7 million health building on behalf of the University of Salford, with the project set to support the delivery of local health and wellbeing services.

The 5,550m2 all-electric building will accommodate some of the University’s most popular courses including podiatry, prosthetics and orthotics, sports rehabilitation, occupational therapy and sports science.

Forming part of the University’s School of Health and Society – the largest School at the University with over 8,400 students – the new building will help to develop the next generation of healthcare professionals, as well as increase access to health and wellbeing services for the public.

Located in a prominent position on the A6 next to Salford Crescent train station, the new facility will be highly sustainable, targeting a rating of BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and WELL Gold building standards.

Professor Vicky Halliwell, Interim Dean at The School of Health and Society, said: “The new building will be one of the gems in the expanding University of Salford estate. It will house world-class facilities which will help us enrich learning, teaching and research opportunities here in Salford, and enable us to support the health and wellbeing of our community too.”

Work is now underway on site and is expected to complete in late 2026.
