Business units to provide economic boost for Teesside

A multi-million-pound development consisting of 43 business units, offering nearly 9,300m2 of industrial, commercial and office space, has been announced for the Teesworks site at South Bank.

Intended to provide a location for local firms to benefit from the major developments taking place at Teesworks, the development will comprise one commercial unit of 930m2, two units of 650m2 and five units of 325m2. There will also be a further 35 hybrid units of 148m2, which will include ground floor warehouse and first floor office space.

Teesworks Chairman Chris Musgrave OBE said: “We are now making huge strides in transforming Teesworks into a location where businesses can thrive.

“We are developing this as a place where local firms can set up and grow – and companies from outside the area can also expand.”

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “This is another example of the fantastic progress we are making to develop the site as a great location for a whole range of businesses.

“These units will provide a modern space where new companies can set up and where established firms can expand and grow – delivering the well-paid jobs and investment our area deserves.”

Construction is expected to start on the units in 2024, subject to planning approval.

The development follows the recent announcement by British Steel that steelmaking will return to Teesworks under proposals to build an electric arc furnace at Lackenby, near Redcar.

Separately, construction of the steel-framed £450M SeAH Wind monopile manufacturing facility is continuing at South Bank while work on the deepwater South Bank Quay is also nearing completion.

Preparatory work also continues on the site of the former Redcar Blast Furnace ahead of the construction of the £1.5bn Net Zero Teesside Power project.
