For ease of transportation, each girder is being fabricated in three pieces (two 16m-long sections and a 32m-long central span).

The original bridge was built during the Second World War to provide access to an RAF aeroplane factory. It is an investment that will maintain and expand current road capacity, while also building the resilience and reliability needed to prepare for future growth.”

Following the demolition of the 85-year old Winterstoke Road Bridge, fabrication is underway for its replacement structure.
