{"id":42501,"date":"2025-03-05T12:16:55","date_gmt":"2025-03-05T12:16:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=42501"},"modified":"2025-03-05T14:27:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-05T14:27:48","slug":"sustainable-offices-set-for-holborn-viaduct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/sustainable-offices-set-for-holborn-viaduct\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainable offices set for Holborn Viaduct"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Holborn250306.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"402\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Holborn250306.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-42502\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Holborn250306.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Holborn250306-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>One of a number of steel-framed commercial schemes currently underway in central London, a 14-storey <a href=\"https:\/\/steelconstruction.info\/Multi-storey_office_buildings#City_centre_commercial_buildings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">office <\/a>development on Holborn Viaduct is quickly taking shape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working on behalf of the client Royal London Asset Management and main contractor Multiplex, BHC is <a href=\"https:\/\/steelconstruction.info\/Fabrication\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fabricating<\/a>, supplying and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction#Steel_erection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">erecting<\/a> 3,200t of steelwork for the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The building has adopted a number of initiatives that are helping the scheme to achieve the desired <a href=\"https:\/\/steelconstruction.info\/Multi-storey_office_buildings#Sustainability_2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BREEAM<\/a> \u2018Outstanding\u2019 and Well Platinum accreditations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inside the structure, around 80t of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Recycling_and_reuse#Reusing_structural_steel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reused <\/a>steel has been obtained from European Metal Recycling (EMR) and incorporated into the structural frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 90% of the steel tonnage used for Holborn Viaduct has been sourced from <a href=\"https:\/\/steelconstruction.info\/Steel_manufacture#Electric_Arc_Furnace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EAF<\/a> production facilities. Delivering a significant carbon saving, this material is considered to be much greener and more efficient in terms of energy consumption for the production process, than the more traditional Basic Oxygen Steelmaking (<a href=\"https:\/\/steelconstruction.info\/Steel_manufacture#Basic_oxygen_steelmaking\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BOS<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has been calculated that if the scheme had used 100% BOS sourced steelwork, the embodied carbon would have been 14,705 tonnes of CO<sub>2<\/sub>e. This figure has been significantly reduced to 5,816 tonnes of CO<sub>2<\/sub>e with the use of EAF steelwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The steel frame erection for Holborn Viaduct is due to finish in June, with the entire building, which has been pre-let to an international law firm, due to complete in mid-2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of a number of steel-framed commercial schemes currently underway in central London, a 14-storey office development on Holborn Viaduct is quickly taking shape.
