{"id":38238,"date":"2023-06-28T09:29:24","date_gmt":"2023-06-28T09:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=38238"},"modified":"2023-06-28T13:35:20","modified_gmt":"2023-06-28T13:35:20","slug":"concrete-filled-steel-columns-form-corby-cold-store","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/concrete-filled-steel-columns-form-corby-cold-store\/","title":{"rendered":"Concrete-filled steel columns form Corby cold store"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Corby-cold-store230629.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"445\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Corby-cold-store230629.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Corby-cold-store230629.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Corby-cold-store230629-300x223.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Designed to improve their thermal quality, a total of 175 concrete-filled columns have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction#Steel_erection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">erected<\/a> to form a new cold storage facility in Corby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The columns were prepared offsite by Billington Structures who constructed a purpose-built grillage at its Wombwell yard, that enabled the columns to be stood upright while they were filled with concrete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to not exceed their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Fabrication#Handling_and_transportation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transport<\/a> trailers 25t-capacity, the 3t columns were delivered to site in groups of eight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The concrete-filled SHS columns are 300mm x 300mm sections that support the facility\u2019s first floor and surround the ground floor goods-in area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spliced to the top of each column is another smaller 250mm x 250mm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Steel_construction_products#Structural_hollow_sections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SHS section<\/a>, which takes each member to the building\u2019s 20m full height.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Owned and operated by ColdStore, the new building forms the second phase of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">construction<\/a> at the site. Similar in size to the initial phase, the latest work consists of a 133m-long goods-in and picking building, with an attached high-bay pallet storage structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goods-in area is located on the ground floor of the 20m-high two-storey structure. This floor has a row of docking bays for delivery trucks, while internally it will contain a conveyor system and automated mono-rail to dispatch frozen food items around the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Retail_buildings#Distribution_warehouses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warehouse<\/a> and into the adjoining high-bay pallet storage building.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Designed to improve their thermal quality, a total of 175 concrete-filled columns have been erected to form a new cold storage facility in Corby.
