{"id":37251,"date":"2023-02-07T23:36:29","date_gmt":"2023-02-07T23:36:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=37251"},"modified":"2023-02-07T23:36:31","modified_gmt":"2023-02-07T23:36:31","slug":"carlisles-steel-framed-sands-centre-completed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/carlisles-steel-framed-sands-centre-completed\/","title":{"rendered":"Carlisle\u2019s steel-framed Sands Centre completed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/n4.2-Carlisle-Sands2302.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"326\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/n4.2-Carlisle-Sands2302.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-37252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/n4.2-Carlisle-Sands2302.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/n4.2-Carlisle-Sands2302-300x163.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The new redeveloped Sands Centre, funded by Carlisle City Council with support from a \u00a32.2M Sport England grant, has been officially opened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set across two storeys and accessed by a bespoke, internal street, the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Braced_frames\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">steel-framed <\/a>extension has added 3,700m<sup>2<\/sup> to the existing building, with the redeveloped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Leisure_buildings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leisure centre<\/a> offering state-of-the-art facilities including a 25m main pool and a 20m learner pool complete with an innovative moveable floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other facilities include a four-court sports hall with a spectator gallery, fully equipped gym, a spinning studio and dance studio, and a caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working on behalf of main contractor Wates, Border Steelwork Structures <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Fabrication\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fabricated<\/a>, supplied and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction#Steel_erection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">erected <\/a>418t of steel for the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leader of Carlisle City Council, Cllr John Mallinson, said: \u201cI\u2019m delighted that work has been completed on The Sands Centre redevelopment and I would like to pass on my thanks to our project team, partners and contractors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMassive improvements have been made to the site and it will provide huge benefits for the wellbeing of our communities.
