{"id":33852,"date":"2021-09-08T10:56:10","date_gmt":"2021-09-08T10:56:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=33852"},"modified":"2021-09-08T10:56:15","modified_gmt":"2021-09-08T10:56:15","slug":"work-starts-on-northumberland-gigaplant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/work-starts-on-northumberland-gigaplant\/","title":{"rendered":"Work starts on Northumberland Gigaplant"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Gigaplant210909.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"414\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Gigaplant210909.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33853\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Gigaplant210909.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Gigaplant210909-300x207.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Having gained planning permission in July, Britishvolt is now the second Gigaplant site in Europe to start <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">construction<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once complete, the site will bring around 3,000 direct jobs and 5,000 associated jobs in the supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Britishvolt is the UK\u2019s leading investor in lithium-ion battery cell technologies and has instructed ISG to commence enabling works for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Portal_frames\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">steel-framed<\/a><a> <\/a>Gigaplant near Blyth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Richard McDonell,&nbsp;Britishvolt&nbsp;Project Director said: \u201cThis is a historic day as it marks the start of construction on the UK\u2019s premier&nbsp;Gigaplant,&nbsp;which\u202fis a landmark event for UK manufacturing and the automotive industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is an exciting announcement and marks the tangible start and progress of the main <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Single_storey_industrial_buildings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">factory building<\/a><a> <\/a>where we will be producing some of the world\u2019s lowest carbon, sustainable battery cells to help accelerate the transition to a low carbon future.\u201d<br><br>Glen Sanderson, Leader of Northumberland County Council said:\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s great to see work starting on the ground on a site which\u00a0the council and partners have been actively engaged on in recent years to make it an attractive proposition for investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSince we granted planning permission, work behind the scenes has continued at pace, so to see enabling works getting underway is fantastic \u2013 not just for the council and\u00a0Britishvolt, but for everyone in the county.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once at full capacity, the\u00a0Gigaplant\u00a0will have a production capability equating to approximately enough cells for around 300,000 electric vehicle battery packs per year, intended primarily for the automotive industry.
