{"id":32628,"date":"2021-03-03T17:14:38","date_gmt":"2021-03-03T17:14:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=32628"},"modified":"2021-03-03T17:14:42","modified_gmt":"2021-03-03T17:14:42","slug":"approval-given-for-new-somerset-surgical-centre-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/approval-given-for-new-somerset-surgical-centre-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Approval given for new Somerset surgical centre"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/nTaunton-Hospital2103.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"331\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/nTaunton-Hospital2103.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32629\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/nTaunton-Hospital2103.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/nTaunton-Hospital2103-300x166.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The government has given final approval for the funding of a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Healthcare_buildings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">surgical centre<\/a> at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, Somerset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Designed by BDP and being delivered by contractor Kier, the \u00a387M state-of-the-art centre will replace the current theatres and critical care unit, which were built during the Second World War as part of a temporary casualty evacuation hospital for the D-Day landings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Procured through the Department for Health and Social Care&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Healthcare_buildings#Framework_Partnering\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">P22 framework<\/a>, the new surgical centre will include eight operating theatres, six endoscopy rooms with a patient recovery and clinical support area, as well as a critical care unit with 22 beds, specifically catering for level 2 and 3 critical care patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Much of the new centre will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Braced_frames\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">steel-framed<\/a> and it has been designed to increase capacity and ensure patients are cared for in a more modern and comfortable environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nick Fairham, Principal at architecture practice BDP said: &#8220;In line with the wider modernisation and transformation of Musgrove Park Hospital, patient, staff and visitor experience is at the heart of the new surgical centre&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Design\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">design<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government has given final approval for the funding of a new surgical centre at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, Somerset.
