{"id":32343,"date":"2021-01-27T15:21:11","date_gmt":"2021-01-27T15:21:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=32343"},"modified":"2021-01-27T15:25:26","modified_gmt":"2021-01-27T15:25:26","slug":"redevelopment-of-granada-tv-studios-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/redevelopment-of-granada-tv-studios-underway\/","title":{"rendered":"Redevelopment of Granada TV studios underway"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Granada210128.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32344\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Granada210128.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Granada210128-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the home of Granada Television (later ITV Granada), Manchester\u2019s famous TV studios are being redeveloped into a new <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Multi-storey_office_buildings#Mixed_use_commercial_buildings\" target=\"_blank\">mixed-use scheme<\/a>\u00a0and steelwork is nearing completion on one of the first new office blocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working on behalf of Bowmer + Kirkland, EvadX is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction#Steel_erection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">erecting<\/a> 550t of steel for a 10-storey commercial block on the site of the former annex building, which used to accommodate dressing rooms and the make-up department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Braced_frames\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">steel-framed<\/a><a> <\/a>structure measures 50m-long x 11m-wide, and it will accommodate around 6,000m<sup>2<\/sup> of office space, along with retail units at ground and lower ground floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Creating the desired column-free and flexible office spaces, a series of Westok <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Steel_construction_products#Cellular_beams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cellular beams<\/a><a> <\/a>span between the building\u2019s perimeter columns, forming each of the floors without any internal support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curtins Senior Engineer Rosie Boroujerdi said: \u201cThere are a number of site constraints that needed to be managed as part of the build to deliver the architectural aspirations of the design.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSteel provides the design flexibility to manage these in an economic way when compared to other forms of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">construction<\/a>.\u00a0It also allows the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Design\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">structural design<\/a>\u00a0to respond to the client\u2019s aspiration for open-plan office spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The office block is due to complete in October.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once the home of Granada Television (later ITV Granada), Manchester\u2019s famous TV studios are being redeveloped into a new mixed-use scheme\u00a0and steelwork is nearing completion on one of the first new office blocks.
