{"id":30551,"date":"2020-05-12T14:38:25","date_gmt":"2020-05-12T14:38:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=30551"},"modified":"2020-05-12T21:50:21","modified_gmt":"2020-05-12T21:50:21","slug":"film-studio-planned-at-former-ashford-railway-works-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/film-studio-planned-at-former-ashford-railway-works-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Film studio planned at former Ashford railway works"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/nAshford2005.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30587\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/nAshford2005.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"414\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/nAshford2005.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/nAshford2005-300x207.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>Regeneration specialist The Creative District Improvement Company (TCDI Co.) and Quinn Estates have announced plans for a \u00a3250M Kent TV and film studio at Ashford\u2019s former railway works.<\/p>\n<p>The project will see the restoration of Grade II-listed buildings in the town, converting them into TV and film studios, ancillary production space and a media village <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Multi-storey_office_buildings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">office<\/a> complex.<\/p>\n<p>Plans also include an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Education_buildings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">educational hub<\/a>, a 120-room <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Residential_and_mixed-use_buildings#Hotels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hotel<\/a>, serviced apartments, a conference centre, a gym, restaurant and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Leisure_buildings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> leisure space<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Quinn of Quinn Estates said the site could become a major European filming hub.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project will make us the biggest regeneration specialists in Kent and I\u2019m very proud of it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe buildings will go from making trains to making films. The growth of filming in Kent is enormous at the moment and this will turbo-charge it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ashford\u2019s former railway works grew substantially in the early part of the 20th Century and, although damaged in the Second World War, it remained a locomotive works until 1962 when the work was transferred to Eastleigh, Hampshire.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the buildings were demolished over the next 20 years and what remains is the shell of the original workshops.
