{"id":28631,"date":"2019-06-12T12:31:20","date_gmt":"2019-06-12T12:31:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=28631"},"modified":"2019-06-12T12:32:04","modified_gmt":"2019-06-12T12:32:04","slug":"major-residential-scheme-takes-shape-on-merseyside","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/major-residential-scheme-takes-shape-on-merseyside\/","title":{"rendered":"Major residential scheme takes shape on Merseyside"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28632\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/nMerseyside1906.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/nMerseyside1906.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/nMerseyside1906-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Working on behalf of main contractor ISG, Walter Watson has completed the erection of 1,200t of steelwork for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Residential_and_mixed-use_buildings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">residential scheme<\/a> in Liverpool\u2019s Baltic Triangle.<\/p>\n<p>Located on Blundell Street, the 200-unit, nine-storey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Braced_frames\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">steel-framed<\/a> apartment block includes two levels of basement car parking, with the uppermost of these floors also accommodating an entrance lobby, residents\u2019 lounge and a gym.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Concept_design#Structural_options_for_stability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stability<\/a> for the steel frame is provided by a combination of traditional flat bar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Braced_frames#Vertical_bracing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cross bracing<\/a> in the lower floors and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Continuous_frames\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">moment frames<\/a> for the two upper levels.<\/p>\n<p>This hybrid design was chosen in order to assist ISG in ensuring that materials needed by the follow-on trades could be easily transported within the upper floors, while maintaining full stability to the structure during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">construction<\/a> stage.<\/p>\n<p>By avoiding moment frames on the lower levels, column sizes were slightly reduced which kept the steelwork tonnage as economical as possible.<\/p>\n<p>The project is due to complete in summer 2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Working on behalf of main contractor ISG, Walter Watson has completed the erection of 1,200t of steelwork for a residential scheme in Liverpool\u2019s Baltic Triangle.
