{"id":28013,"date":"2019-02-27T10:57:50","date_gmt":"2019-02-27T10:57:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=28013"},"modified":"2019-02-27T10:57:50","modified_gmt":"2019-02-27T10:57:50","slug":"learning-and-teaching-hub-takes-form-in-glasgow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/learning-and-teaching-hub-takes-form-in-glasgow\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning and teaching hub takes form in Glasgow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28004\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Glasgow-University190228.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Glasgow-University190228.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Glasgow-University190228-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>The multi-million pound University of Glasgow Campus Development is progressing with the steel frame for the Learning and Teaching Hub nearing completion.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by HLM Architects, the Hub will be an inspirational and diverse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Education_buildings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">learning space<\/a>, allowing undergraduate and postgraduate students access to advanced and useful learning spaces.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Construction<\/a> work on the \u00a390.6M building started at the end of October 2017 and it is due to be completed in the academic year in 2019\/20.<\/p>\n<p>Working on behalf of main contractor Multiplex, BHC will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction#Steel_erection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">erect<\/a> 950t of steel for the structure that forms the centrepiece of the development\u2019s phase one.<\/p>\n<p>The eight-storey building comprises an in-situ concrete frame and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Braced_frames\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">steel-framed<\/a> structure within, forming the lecture theatres. Externally, it will be clad with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Facades_and_interfaces#Curtain_walling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">curtain walling<\/a>, precast panels and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Weathering_steel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">weathering steel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When complete, the building will accommodate over 2,500 students, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Leisure_buildings#Theatres_and_auditoria\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lecture theatre<\/a> with capacity for 500 students. Interactive teaching spaces will range in capacity from 340 \u2013 75 students, while the hub will also have a number of seminar\/group study spaces.
