{"id":27427,"date":"2018-11-07T10:23:28","date_gmt":"2018-11-07T10:23:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=27427"},"modified":"2018-11-07T10:23:28","modified_gmt":"2018-11-07T10:23:28","slug":"steel-creating-more-accommodation-for-aberdeen-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/steel-creating-more-accommodation-for-aberdeen-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Steel creating more accommodation for Aberdeen students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27419\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Triple-Kirks181108.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Triple-Kirks181108.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Triple-Kirks181108-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Aberdeen\u2019s burgeoning student population is set to receive more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Residential_and_mixed-use_buildings#Student_residences\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accommodation<\/a> options once the prestigious Triple Kirks scheme completes in late 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Being developed by Dandara, the project comprises three interlinked steel-framed blocks (11, 12 and 13-storeys high), offering 337 en-suite accommodation units and ancillary facilities, that occupy a constrained site with a Grade A listed church spire dating from the 1840s.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">construction<\/a> programme, restoration and refurbishment work is also being undertaken to the spire so that it will become a feature element within the completed development.<\/p>\n<p>Dandara Engineering Director Greg Kerwick said: \u201cOn a tight and constrained site like this steel has the advantage of being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Fabrication\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fabricated<\/a> offsite. This results in far less material on the footprint as it is brought to site and erected immediately. It is also quick to erect which is something we like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fabricated, supplied and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction#Steel_erection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">erected<\/a> by EvadX, the steel frame totals 600t with an extremely high piece count. This is because there are no long spans and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Concept_design#Floor_grids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grid pattern<\/a> is very irregular as it has to encompass three different room sizes, all of which are present on each floor.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Design\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">design<\/a> has a central corridor with accommodation units situated either side. Blocks one and two sit to the north of the spire and block three is positioned to the south.
