{"id":26913,"date":"2018-09-05T11:40:24","date_gmt":"2018-09-05T11:40:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=26913"},"modified":"2018-09-05T11:40:24","modified_gmt":"2018-09-05T11:40:24","slug":"major-revamp-planned-for-walthamstow-town-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/major-revamp-planned-for-walthamstow-town-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Major revamp planned for Walthamstow town centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-26906\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Walthamstow180906.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"404\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Walthamstow180906.jpg 404w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Walthamstow180906-300x282.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 404px) 100vw, 404px\" \/>Plans have been approved for a major redevelopment of Walthamstow town centre in north east London, expanding the shopping centre and constructing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Residential_and_mixed-use_buildings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new homes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The redevelopment of Walthamstow Mall, approved by Waltham Forest Council planning committee and the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, will bring \u00a3200M of private investment, and provide 8,000m\u00b2 of new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Retail_buildings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">retail space<\/a>, 350 new permanent retail jobs, 500 new homes, a new children\u2019s play area as well as a re-landscaped town square.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme has substantial costs due to complex foundation works aimed at avoiding damaging the nearby tube line and station coupled with the need to keep the shopping centre open during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">construction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Waltham Forest Council Leader, Clare Coghill said \u201cThe Mayor\u2019s decision to approve the redevelopment of the Mall in Walthamstow will radically improve the town centre, replacing the existing town square and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Retail_buildings#Shopping_centres\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shopping centre<\/a> which is tired, underused and not good enough for our residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA new and expanded Mall will give a significant boost to the local economy, giving our residents the opportunity to shop in the borough rather than going further afield, which has a detrimental effect on our local economy.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Plans have been approved for a major redevelopment of Walthamstow town centre in north east London, expanding the shopping centre and constructing new homes.
