{"id":26670,"date":"2018-07-10T13:41:22","date_gmt":"2018-07-10T13:41:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=26670"},"modified":"2018-07-10T13:41:22","modified_gmt":"2018-07-10T13:41:22","slug":"elephant-castle-redevelopment-gets-the-go-ahead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/elephant-castle-redevelopment-gets-the-go-ahead\/","title":{"rendered":"Elephant &#038; Castle redevelopment gets the go-ahead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26662\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/EnC190712.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/EnC190712.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/EnC190712-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Developer Delancey\u2019s plans to demolish Elephant &amp; Castle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Retail_buildings#Shopping_centres\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shopping centre<\/a> and build a new town centre have been given the green light by Southwark Council.<\/p>\n<p>The decision means the landmark south London shopping centre will close in early 2019 before demolition, followed by a redevelopment programme which will include 979 new homes, a new home for the London College of Communication, and town centre retail and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Leisure_buildings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leisure facilities<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Johnson Situ, Cabinet Member for Development, Growth and Planning, said: \u201cThis is a complex scheme that will create a vibrant, new town centre, which is a key part of the wider regeneration of Elephant &amp; Castle bringing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Residential_and_mixed-use_buildings#Residential_buildings_in_urban_areas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new homes<\/a>, jobs and opportunities to the area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stafford Lancaster, Investment Director of developer Delancey said:\u00a0\u201cOur proposals offer a once in a lifetime opportunity to deliver a new town centre for the area, with each of these elements dependent on being delivered together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis includes a modern transport system, and a commitment to maintaining the area\u2019s unique and vibrant culture.
