{"id":24611,"date":"2017-07-26T09:22:51","date_gmt":"2017-07-26T09:22:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=24611"},"modified":"2017-07-26T12:01:54","modified_gmt":"2017-07-26T12:01:54","slug":"knowledge-quarter-kicks-off-in-liverpool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/knowledge-quarter-kicks-off-in-liverpool\/","title":{"rendered":"Knowledge Quarter kicks off in Liverpool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24623\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Limestreet2-170727.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Limestreet2-170727.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Limestreet2-170727-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Structural steelwork is nearing completion on one of the first phases of Liverpool\u2019s ambitious Knowledge Quarter development.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a339M scheme, being delivered by ISG for Ion Developments, is set to transform a site opposite Lime Street Station, with new retail, leisure, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Residential_and_mixed-use_buildings#Student_residences\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">student accommodation<\/a>\u00a0and a new Premier Inn <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Residential_and_mixed-use_buildings#Hotels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hotel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Steelwork contractor, Billington Structures, is nearing completion of its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction#Steel_erection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">erection<\/a> programme that will eventually include 1,300t of steel.<\/p>\n<p>Sat atop a steel-framed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Residential_and_mixed-use_buildings#Podium_structures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">podium<\/a> level that accommodates retail units, the scheme includes a 10-storey, 412-bed student accommodation block and an adjacent three-storey Premier Inn hotel with 101 guest rooms.<\/p>\n<p>Chosen for its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/The_case_for_steel#Speed_of_construction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">speed of construction<\/a> and cost, the steelwork is predominantly based around a regular 7.3m <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Concept_design#Floor_grids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">grid pattern<\/a>. In order to avoid having <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Braced_frames#Vertical_bracing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bracing<\/a> inside the lower level retail units, to allow for more flexibility in shop sizes, the structures are stabilised by a combination of sway and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Continuous_frames\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">moment frames<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Covering a 450-acre site, the Knowledge Quarter will extend from the city\u2019s main railway station at Lime Street north eastwards towards John Moores University.
