{"id":24408,"date":"2017-07-05T10:54:19","date_gmt":"2017-07-05T10:54:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=24408"},"modified":"2017-07-05T10:54:19","modified_gmt":"2017-07-05T10:54:19","slug":"frame-up-for-preston-market-redevelopment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/frame-up-for-preston-market-redevelopment\/","title":{"rendered":"Frame up for Preston Market redevelopment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24409\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Preston170706.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Preston170706.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Preston170706-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Structural steelwork for the redevelopment of Preston\u2019s historic covered market has been completed by Border Steelwork Structures (BSS).<\/p>\n<p>Working on behalf of main contractor Conlon Construction, BSS <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction#Steel_erection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">erected<\/a> approximately 100t of steel to form new permanent stalls within the restored Victorian market.<\/p>\n<p>Covering half of the covered market\u2019s floor space, the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Braced_frames\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">steel-framed<\/a> stalls will be able to accommodate 32 traders.<\/p>\n<p>The remainder of the floor space will be used for 52 temporary stalls or as an events space.<\/p>\n<p>Frank Whittle Partnership Architect John Bridge said steel was chosen for its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Retail_buildings#Flexibility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">flexibility<\/a> and ease with which it can form the cantilevering stall structures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSteel has also given us a contemporary feel within the restored Victorian wrought-ironwork of the old market building.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The redevelopment of the covered market is the third phase of Preston\u2019s much larger market quarter scheme. So far this has included, during phase 1 and 2, the redevelopment of the adjacent Fish Market and the restoration of the Covered Market\u2019s 110m-long roof.<\/p>\n<p>Two more phases are planned; phase four will consist of the demolition of the nearby multi-storey car park and market building. This will then free-up space for a fifth phase, consisting of a new steel-framed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Leisure_buildings#Theatres_and_auditoria\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cinema<\/a>, restaurant and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Retail_buildings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">retail complex<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Structural steelwork for the redevelopment of Preston\u2019s historic covered market has been completed by Border Steelwork Structures (BSS).
