{"id":23401,"date":"2017-02-01T10:55:58","date_gmt":"2017-02-01T10:55:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=23401"},"modified":"2017-02-01T10:55:58","modified_gmt":"2017-02-01T10:55:58","slug":"fit-out-on-track-at-london-bridge-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/fit-out-on-track-at-london-bridge-station\/","title":{"rendered":"Fit-out on track at London Bridge Station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23396\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/LB170202.jpg\" alt=\"LB170202\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/LB170202.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/LB170202-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Due to complete in January 2018, the ongoing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/station-redevelopment-on-track-with-steel\/\" target=\"_blank\">redevelopment of London Bridge Station<\/a> is one of the country\u2019s most complex transportation projects and one reliant on steel construction.<\/p>\n<p>Fit-out of the station is now under way with Bourne Special Projects (part of Bourne Construction Engineering) providing structural steelwork for new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Retail_buildings\" target=\"_blank\">retail units<\/a>, which are situated in the new concourse as well as in the east and west entrances.<\/p>\n<p>The company has also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Fabrication\" target=\"_blank\">fabricated<\/a>, supplied and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction#Steel_erection\" target=\"_blank\">erected<\/a> steelwork to create four staff accommodation blocks, three of which are under the existing Victorian brick arches and one in the new concourse area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis work is very complex as the site is very tight and maneuvering steel under the concourse has to be done with forklifts or small items of lifting equipment,\u201d said Bourne Special Projects Divisional Director Howard Cox.<\/p>\n<p>Each of the station\u2019s platforms will be served by an escalator and two staircases from the concourse. Bourne has also erected some of these staircase structures, all of which are fabricated from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Weathering_steel\" target=\"_blank\">weathering steel<\/a> as this material will require less maintenance in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Bourne is also erecting a new 10m-tall \u00d7 70m-long architectural steel-framed station <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Facades_and_interfaces\" target=\"_blank\">fa\u00e7ade<\/a> along Tooley Street.<\/p>\n<p>Around 54M passengers use London Bridge station each year and Network Rail\u2019s redevelopment, which is part of the Thameslink Programme, will provide improved facilities and two-thirds more space for passengers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Due to complete in January 2018, the ongoing redevelopment of London Bridge Station is one of the country\u2019s most complex transportation projects and one reliant on steel construction.
