{"id":21108,"date":"2016-01-06T14:44:12","date_gmt":"2016-01-06T14:44:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=21108"},"modified":"2016-01-06T14:44:12","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T14:44:12","slug":"glasgow-station-to-get-make-over","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/glasgow-station-to-get-make-over\/","title":{"rendered":"Glasgow station to get make-over"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Glasgow160107.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21104\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Glasgow160107.jpg\" alt=\"Glasgow160107\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Glasgow160107.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Glasgow160107-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>The transformation of one of Scotland\u2019s most important railway stations, Glasgow Queen Street, has moved a step closer after a \u00a3112M tender was issued for its rebuild.<\/p>\n<p>Scotland\u2019s third busiest station, with 20M passengers a year, Glasgow Queen Street needs to expand to meet predicted growth to 28M passengers by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>The station\u2019s platforms and concourse also need to be extended to accommodate the faster, longer, greener electric trains being introduced to Scotland\u2019s railway as part of the \u00a3742M Edinburgh-Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP).<\/p>\n<p>Due for completion in 2019, the redevelopment will create a landmark, modern station which reflects Queen Street\u2019s role as a gateway to the city and as an important departure point for visitors heading north and east.<\/p>\n<p>The scope of the project will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demolition of the Millennium Hotel\u2019s 1970s extension above the station<\/li>\n<li>Demolition of Consort House<\/li>\n<li>Removal of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Facades_and_interfaces#Louvres_and_canopies\" target=\"_blank\">canopy<\/a> over the footway in Dundas Street<\/li>\n<li>Redevelopment of the station concourse, south and west <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Facades_and_interfaces\" target=\"_blank\">fa\u00e7ades<\/a>, including reconstruction and extension of station buildings<\/li>\n<li>Improved station entrances at Dundas Street and George Square<\/li>\n<li>New lighting and public address systems<\/li>\n<li>New ticket office and staff accommodation block<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction\" target=\"_blank\">Construction<\/a> of extended platforms to accommodate eight-car trains.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ScotRail Alliance Managing Director Phil Verster said: \u201cThis is another tremendously exciting step forward in our plans to transform Scotland\u2019s railway.
