{"id":19967,"date":"2015-06-17T12:02:43","date_gmt":"2015-06-17T12:02:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=19967"},"modified":"2015-07-10T14:01:17","modified_gmt":"2015-07-10T14:01:17","slug":"sunderland-to-get-inspiring-sports-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/sunderland-to-get-inspiring-sports-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunderland to get inspiring sports centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Beacon150618.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19960\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Beacon150618.jpg\" alt=\"Beacon150618\" width=\"600\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Beacon150618.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Beacon150618-300x102.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>An innovative <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Leisure_buildings\" target=\"_blank\">sports centre<\/a> in Sunderland with training and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Education_buildings\" target=\"_blank\">educational facilities<\/a> has moved a step closer to fruition after locally based architects FaulknerBrowns won the final round of a national design competition.<\/p>\n<p>Known as the Beacon of Light, the \u00a315M centre will be built adjacent to Sunderland FC\u2019s football stadium and is expected to be complete by 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The design for the project envisages a cube-shaped <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Braced_frames\" target=\"_blank\">steel-framed<\/a> structure that will include a two-storey school with an indoor football pitch above.<\/p>\n<p>FaulknerBrowns spokesperson said this will be a unique centre and the first of its kind in the UK to inspire students via sport and in particular football.<\/p>\n<p>It will have engaging and interactive zones in education, health and fitness, sport and play, and the world of work.<\/p>\n<p>Chair of project backer Foundation of Light Bob Murray said: \u201cThe Beacon of Light will be an exciting and inspiring facility and an important catalyst for the wider regeneration of this quarter of the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will provide a safe, vibrant and feel-good environment where young people can meet socially; where they can learn and take part in courses to gain skills and qualifications; and where their fascination and love of football will start them on a journey that will help them make choices to improve their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A tendering process is about to start and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Construction\" target=\"_blank\">construction<\/a> of the project is expected to kick off in early 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An innovative sports centre in Sunderland with training and educational facilities has moved a step closer to fruition after locally based architects FaulknerBrowns won the final round of a national design competition.
