The structure will consist of 24 floors of office space with a ground floor retail zone.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Can of Ham\u2019 so called because of its distinctive curved shape that is said to resemble a tin of meatstuff will be a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Steel-supported_glazed_facades_and_roofs\" target=\"_blank\">glazed building<\/a> designed to be extremely energy efficient.<\/p>\n<p>Vertical <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Use_of_steel_in_cladding_systems#Solar_shading\" target=\"_blank\">shading fins<\/a> to the curved <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Facades_and_interfaces\" target=\"_blank\">fa\u00e7ades<\/a> and glazed double wall cladding to the end elevations will reduce solar heat gains to the offices.<\/p>\n<p>Other low energy measures, such as borehole thermal energy storage, will result in a structure with very low <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Operational_carbon\" target=\"_blank\">carbon emissions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme\u2019s original developer Targetfollow went into administration in 2011, with the development then sold to a US pension fund which merged its European real estate business with investment group Henderson\u2019s Asian and European real estate businesses to create TIAA Henderson Real Estate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The much delayed City of London office building dubbed the \u2018Can of Ham\u2019 is being resurrected and according to sources will start onsite this summer \u2013 more than six years after Foggo Associates was given planning permission.
