{"id":18344,"date":"2014-09-02T00:04:15","date_gmt":"2014-09-02T00:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/?p=18344"},"modified":"2014-08-31T19:07:29","modified_gmt":"2014-08-31T19:07:29","slug":"forth-crossing-construction-passes-half-way-stage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/forth-crossing-construction-passes-half-way-stage\/","title":{"rendered":"Forth Crossing construction passes half way stage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/nForthCrossingSept14.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18321\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/nForthCrossingSept14.jpg\" alt=\"nForthCrossingSept14\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/nForthCrossingSept14.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.newsteelconstruction.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/nForthCrossingSept14-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>Transport for Scotland has announced that construction of \u00a3790M Forth Replacement Crossing has passed the half way point as all three towers are now higher than the level of the yet to be erected bridge deck.<\/p>\n<p>A major part of the scheme is the construction of the southern and northern approach viaducts, work that is being undertaken by Cleveland Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>The 545m-long southern viaduct is nearing completion and erection of the 220m-long northern structure is due to begin later this month (September).<\/p>\n<p>Steelwork for the southern viaduct consists of 12 single open top deck sections measuring 30m wide \u00d7 4m high and around 12m long as well as a further eight open top trapezoidal <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Box_girder_bridges\">box girders<\/a> 8m wide \u00d7 4m high and up to 25m long.<\/p>\n<p>All of the steelwork is being fabricated at Cleveland Bridge\u2019s Darlington facility into sub-assemblies that are delivered to site and welded together to form deck sections.<\/p>\n<p>The decks are being slid into position using an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steelconstruction.info\/Design_for_steel_bridge_construction#Launching\" target=\"_blank\">incremental launching procedure<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Transport for Scotland has announced that construction of \u00a3790M Forth Replacement Crossing has passed the half way point as all three towers are now higher than the level of the yet to be erected bridge deck.
