Works Starts on New Wigan Bus Station

Vinci Construction has started work on the £15.7M redevelopment of Wigan Bus Station.

The first stage of the redevelopment includes the demolition of the old bus station on Hallgate to make way for initial ground works.

Once complete, the new bus station, delivered by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), will have improved waiting areas for passengers, a ticket and information outlet and retail facilities.

Councillor Guy Harkin, Vice Chair of the TfGM Committee, said: “I’m delighted demolition work has begun, opening up the site for construction to start. I’m sure passers-by will be interested in seeing the new, modern facility begin to take shape.

“This is an exciting time for Wigan – a new bus station is a key part in delivering an improved transport system for the borough that is fit for the decades ahead.”

Councillor David Molyneux, Wigan Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “It’s great to see work starting at Wigan Bus Station, which will play a huge part in improving our transport system in the borough.

“Once the new bus station is complete, it will help support the economic growth of the borough and help people get to and from work and also enjoy the many great shops, restaurants and bars in the town.”
