Tyneside office park expands with steel

Posted on by in News

Two more steel framed data centres are under construction at the Cobalt Business Park on the outskirts of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Cobalt is said to be the UK’s largest office park and the majority of the office buildings are steel framed.

Bowmer & Kirkland are the main contractor for the two speculative data centres known as DC2 and DC3.

Hambleton Steel has erected 1,000t of structural steelwork for the two frames. In an earlier contract last year, the company erected a similar tonnage for two other office blocks for the Tyneside park.

The data centres are aiming for BREEAM ‘Excellent’ ratings and the developer, Highbridge Business Park, said they are being built to the highest green specification.
