Steelwork in action published in New Civil Engineer

Posted on by in Weekly News

The latest Structural Steelwork in Action special report is available in this month’s New Civil Engineer (NCE) magazine.

Published in association with the British Constructional Steelwork Association [BCSA] and Steel for Life, the supplement showcases four innovative steelwork projects as well as a report on steel construction’s cost benefits.

The initial project feature is the Welsh Baptist Chapel in Manchester, which is being converted into student accommodation. By inserting a new steel frame within the existing facade, the scheme will provide 73 private residential apartments.

Incorporating a number of community facilities as well as a high school, the Newbattle Centre is set to reinvigorate the former mining area of Midlothian.

The supplement includes a write-up on cost, showcasing the new Costing Steelwork series of studies which are produced Aecom, the BCSA and Steel for Life.

Designed by Foster & Partners, the new steel-framed home for BBC Wales is quickly taking shape in Cardiff. The project forms an integral element of the Central Square scheme, which will radically alter a large swathe of the city.

Joining a cluster of high-profile high-rise buildings in the City of London, the steel-framed 190m-high 52 Lime Street [the Scalpel] will offer 35 floors of offices and retail.
