Steel rises up on Aldgate tower
Forming phase 2 of Aldgate Developments’ master plan on the City of London’s eastern boundary, steelwork is progressing on schedule for the One Braham scheme.
Designed by WilkinsonEyre, the 18-storey steel-framed office building will offer 29,500m² of floor space.
Working on behalf of main contractor McLaughlin & Harvey, Severfield is fabricating, supplying and erecting 2,500t of steelwork for the job.
In order to maximise the available floor space, the building’s core is offset and positioned along the south facing elevation. The steel frame radiates out from the core on a 9m × 9m grid pattern.
Fabsec cellular beams are used throughout to support metal deck flooring and a concrete topping to create a composite design.
According to Aldgate Developments, the scheme adopts a contemporary office feel with exposed ceilings and integrated retail at ground floor, while still boasting some of London’s finest views, and considerable floorplate efficiencies.
One Braham is due to be complete by May 2020.
