Steel creates eye-catching entrance at city centre retail complex

Scottish Galvanizers (part of the Wedge Group) has helped create a new entrance to the popular Princes Square shopping centre, in Glasgow.

The company’s Commercial Manager Paul Tait said: “The steel new entrance is designed to raise awareness of the complex with the thousands of people who pass by on one of the busiest streets in the city every day.

“It’s an intricate design that includes the branding of retailers within the centre and each steel section contained critical parts that had to be protected individually prior to galvanizing.

“We therefore processed sample sections to determine the best method and it was great to see such good results in the end.”

Work on the new entrance, in Buchanan Street, was completed in October and all of the steelwork for the project was supplied by Legge Steel (Fabrications), based in Fife.

Legge Steel Director Paul Witcombe added: “This was a complex project and we were happy to trust it to Scottish Galvanizers as we have a long-standing relationship with Paul and his team.

“We were looking for a durable and long-life, no maintenance protection system for the hot rolled steelwork and therefore galvanizing was the first choice for the surface protection.

“However, our main priority ahead of the process was to ensure a good finish and that support pins on the framework of the structure would not be damaged.”
