Silverburn leisure extension open for business

Posted on by in Weekly News

Silverburn150702The £20M leisure extension to the Silverburn shopping centre in Pollok, Glasgow has been officially opened.

The 9,200m² development is anchored by a 14-screen Cineworld and features 11 new restaurants, including Carluccio’s, Chimichanga, Cosmo, Zizzi, Pret, TGI Friday’s and Five Guys.

Completion of the Silverburn extension marks the most significant investment project undertaken by Hammerson and CPPIB, since they acquired the shopping centre in 2009.

Designed to further increase Silverburn’s appeal to local customers, the extension is expected to attract over one million additional visitors through Silverburn’s doors.

Hammerson Development Manager Guy Wells said: “By delivering more for Silverburn’s visitors, the centre is now set to play an even greater role in the local community and beyond, which is not only important in helping to drive dwell time, catering and retail sales, but it is also vital in future-proofing the continued success of Silverburn.”

Working on behalf of main contractor Graham Construction, approximately 1,600t of steel was erected for the extension by Walter Watson.

The Silverburn shopping centre opened in 2007 on the site of the former Pollok Centre and is one of the largest retail destinations in Scotland. Severfield erected more than 10,000t of steel for this initial scheme.
