Posted on by in Weekly News

RIBA160505The latest Steel Intelligence report is published in this week’s RIBA Journal (Friday 6th May) and can also be viewed at: www.steelconstruction.info

In this report RIBA considers long spans and how the increased flexibility of use might aid building longevity. Two project case studies offer sharp contrasts in scale and nature.

Architect Make’s steel clad and steel-framed groundscraper 5 Broadgate provides some of the largest floorplates in the City of London. A BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating is expected for the building, which is scheduled for occupation by the end of the year.

In Leeds, AHR’s challenge was to create a much needed additional entrance to the city’s main railway station while building over a river and live railway tracks.

Chris Wise of Expedition Engineering completes the Steel Intelligence report with an article on Brunel’s iconic Royal Albert Bridge at Saltash.
