Plans for multi-million pound Aberdeen science hub

Plans for the University of Aberdeen’s science teaching hub have been lodged with Aberdeen City Council.

The plans envisage a new building dedicated to science laboratories created on the corner of St Machar Drive and Bedford Road, on university grounds.

It would feature cutting edge facilities and flexible teaching laboratory space to encourage collaboration between students from different disciplines.

The building would also provide the main teaching laboratories for students studying chemistry, physiology, biomedical sciences, geosciences and biological sciences.

It is hoped the hub will be available for teaching in 2021. The project’s proposal is now open for comments from the public following consultations held by the university at The Sir Duncan Rice Library late last year, with Aberdeen City Council hoping to come to a determination by May 11.

Professor Sir Ian Diamond, Principal and Vice Chancellor of the university, said: “We are extremely excited about this new science teaching hub and the benefits it will bring to our students.”
