Further expansion set for London’s Canary Wharf

Posted on by in Weekly News

Construction work could start next year on the second phase of the Wood Wharf development at Canary Wharf in London Docklands.

The master plan by architect Allies and Morrison, forms an eastward expansion of Canary Wharf and is founded on straightforward urban principles.

Public spaces are distributed so that each residential plot is adjacent to either a park or water. Commercial plots front the major streets that are in turn a part of a familiar urban hierarchy.

It has a series of public spaces – a market place, a main square, a London park – all connected with a network of footpaths that connect the Grade I listed basin to the north with the informal park to the south and the existing community to the east with Canary Wharf to the west.

The next phase of works at Wood Wharf will consist of seven buildings offering 36,000m² of commercial office space, 15,000m² of residential and 21,000m² of retail and leisure use.
