February issue of New Steel Construction out now

NSCFebruary2017cov170216The latest issue of New Steel Construction (NSC) is now available in both digital and print formats that will be arriving in the post this week.

Anyone who does not receive the print magazine and would like a free subscription (UK and Ireland only) should visit: www.steelconstruction.info while readers who prefer the digital offering of NSC can find it at: www.newsteelconstruction.com

February’s cover story is 52 Lime Street, otherwise known as the Scalpel. Eventually reaching a height of 190m, the structure is the latest in a long list of landmark steel-framed building’s in the City of London.

Two further commercial schemes are featured, the ARM headquarters building in Cambridge and 122 Waterloo Street in Glasgow. Both projects are reliant on steel’s long span qualities and its speed of construction.

A series of acoustically isolated boxes within a larger steel frame are the order of the day for a music college in Birmingham. The project is the first conservatoire to be built in the UK for nearly 30 years.

Meanwhile, a swimming pool and an ice rink above are being built in Romford. The job has presented a number of challenges to be overcome such as how to isolate a warm pool area from a cold ice rink.

Steel for Life is once again highlighted in this month’s magazine with a Sector Focus article on steel bending. The piece investigates how curved structural steelwork has become an established element in UK design and construction.

NSC also features, as usual, a technical article and advisory desk from the Steel Construction Institute, industry news, and codes and standards updates.
