Contractor named for Scottish advanced manufacturing hub

Posted on by in Weekly News

Morrison Construction (part of Galliford Try) has been appointed to build an 11,500m² centre for advanced manufacturing research and innovation, on the new Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland adjacent to Glasgow Airport.

The £42M project for the University of Strathclyde will comprise three key components: a fully digital ‘factory of the future’; a manufacturing skills academy; and a collaboration hub. It will help support manufacturing and engineering firms of all sizes and sectors. Work is expected to get underway in the summer.

In addition, Morrison Construction said it has renewed its position as a Tier 1 Contractor on the hub South West Scotland framework for the second time. The framework, worth £200M to five contractors over three years, will see the delivery of efficient and high-quality public sector facilities across the education, health and leisure sectors within the territory.

Bill Hocking, Chief Executive of Galliford Try, commented: “As the contractor of choice in Scotland, we are delighted to have been selected again by the University of Strathclyde to deliver this important facility that will transform manufacturing as we know it in Scotland.

“hub South West Scotland has been a brilliant vehicle for developing innovative, sustainable and cost-effective solutions and this is fantastic news that we will be able to build on this with the renewal of our position on this important framework.”
